Read the complete story of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth (known as The Christ) in English verse. Based on the entirety of the gospel texts of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, this new work by contemporary poet Edouard d'Araille transforms the words of the New Testament evangelists into one unified poetic text
The New Testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John provide different perspectives on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These gospel authors have source material in common yet each of them provides a unique outlook on Jesus
What all the gospels share is that their authors believed that Jesus of Galilee was the real-life fulfilment of pronouncements by Old Testament prophets, who wrote about the 'Messiah' or 'Anointed One'
One episode included in all of the gospels is that of John the Baptist, baptizing on the banks of the Jordan, who recognizes Jesus as The Chosen One as he approaches to be anointed. Click Here to read four chapters from 'Book of Jesus' about that encounter
ALMOST 2000 YEARS AGO A JEW FROM GALILEE WAS CRUCIFIED AT THE REQUEST OF HIS OWN PEOPLE. CHRISTIANS BELIEVE THAT JESUS RESURRECTED 3 DAYS AFTER HIS DEATH
Though many other gospels appeared over the centuries after Jesus, the gospels of the first four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke & John (all written during the 1st century A.D.) can be credited with the highest level of historical accuracy, being closest in time to the events about which they write. The language chosen for the composition of their accounts was in each case Koine (Hellenistic) Greek - though there is speculation that a gospel in Aramaic (Hebrew) existed first
In 'Book of Jesus' the four gospels of the New Testament evangelists have been transformed into a single gospel written entirely in English verse. Every one of the 285 poetic sections of the work have been composed based upon episodes occurring in the original gospel sources
The poetic text of 'Book of Jesus' was arrived at following a lengthy research process into the texts on which it has been based, including its original Koine Greek sources. -
According to the translator : "This was always going to be a most challenging book to create in poetic form, not only due to its multiple sources, but because of the plethora of results from gospel scholarship that cannot be ignored when the central aim is to produce a dependable text"
